Yarnspirtations Mystery Bags - Yarn Review

Recently I got the chance to snag a few of Yarnspirations’ “Mystery Bags” for a fantastic price. In this special review post, I’ll tell you all about my experience.

About the Product
These bags are regularly $7.99, which is an average price for a pound of yarn, in my opinion. The stats on the website promise one pound of mill ends, all the same gauge and color, per bag. During a sale, I was able to pick up 6 bags for $2.40 each! Definitely a great value. With shipping, the total was just over $20. At that price, I just had to try it out!

My Review
The yarn came in clear bags, all in one big box. With no labels, I couldn’t tell what brand or variety each bundle was, but each bag was consistent in color and gauge. Four bags seem to be medium weight, and the other two appear to be light/baby weight. Each bag was a different color; black, white, blue, baby pink, light yellow, and a blue/pink/yellow/white variegated. Every bag contained acrylic yarn.
No labels!

All skeins appear to be good quality yarn in good condition. The only thing I noticed was a bit of black fuzz on the blue yarn, but I’ve seen that on all kinds of yarn and it’s not at all a big deal to pick off a little fuzz. It’s impossible to know exactly how the yarn will work up or what the insides of the skeins will look like, so I’ll update this post as I start working with each individual yarn.
I broke out the kitchen scale for each bag, and every one contained at least one pound of yarn. In fact, the heaviest one had 1 lb 5 oz of yarn! That’s enough for a good sized project, like a small baby blanket.

As you can see, some of the skeins were a little disheveled. Most of them were still in skein form, but a couple will probably need to be balled with a yarn winder. This isn't a deal breaker, just something to think about if you're planning to buy a lot of these bags.

Final Thoughts
If you like fun surprises, these mystery bags are for you. If you love a bargain, it’s worth waiting until they go on sale, because over 6 pounds of yarn for $20 is an insane deal! Opening a box with surprise mystery yarn in it was so much fun. I won’t need more yarn for quite a while, but I’ll definitely order some more mystery bags in the future. It’s also a little exciting to have the yarn picked for you. The ideas start coming instantly. “What does this yarn want to be?” “This’ll be perfect for a project I’ve been planning…” Overall, I recommend buying a few bags (*especially* when they go on sale again) if you need a little inspiration, or if you just want to treat yourself to a fun surprise.
