Yarn Review: Caron Cakes
Happy Monday! This week I'm telling you what I think of Caron Cakes. This yarn was (and still is) insanely popular. In the beginning it sold out very quickly and it prompted many brands to put out similar products. So, does it live up to all the hype?

Stats -
Caron Cakes is a 4-medium weight yarn that's a blend of 80% wool and 20% acrylic. It comes in "cakes" of 383 yards.
Price & Availability - 4/5
At this time, Caron Cakes is a Michael's exclusive. It's $7.99 per cake. If you're buying for a big project that can get expensive quick, but Michaels typically has good sales or coupons. Cakes can sometimes be found on sale for $6. Pair that sale with a coupon and that's a great deal!
Softness & Drape - 4/5
I'm not usually a fan of wool, but wool blended with acrylic is pretty great. Cakes is softer than most mid-range acrylic or wool, and the drape is nice as well.
Look & Colors - 5/5
Since new colors were recently added, Cakes now comes in 26 colorways! It's a self-striping yarn, and each cake features 5 colors. It works up so pretty!
User Friendliness - 4/5
As I said, Caron Cakes is a pretty soft yarn. It also has very little to no splitting, and you get great color changing without all the ends to weave in. Overall it's easy to use. However, being a wool blend it needs to be hand-washed and laid flat to dry.
Overall Rating - 8/10
Overall, I'd say that Caron Cakes lives up to the hype. I think it's worth the price, especially if you can get it on sale. It could be inconvenient that it's a Michaels exclusive, but with their sales and coupons I don't see that as much of a drawback. If you have a wool allergy, I'd definitely recommend checking out some of the similar brands.
Comparable Brands -
Bernat Pop!, Premier Sweet Roll, Lion Brand Mandala.
So, have you jumped on the Caron Cakes craze? What do you think? What yarn do you want me to try next? Let me know in the comments below!
