Springtime Broomstick Lace Scarf - Free Pattern

Springtime Broomstick Lace Scarf
Free Crochet Pattern

Good morning! This week I've been working a lot with broomstick lace. It's such a pretty technique, and I don't think it's used enough! So I've designed two scarf patterns for you using broomstick lace. The first is my Springtime Broomstick Lace Scarf. It's perfect for this time of year, when it's getting warmer but there are still a few chilly days. Put it over a light sweater, or a cute sun dress!

There is a downloadable version of this scarf available for purchase here: Ravelry Link. Remember to favorite this pattern and add your projects! While you're there, why not check out some of my other patterns too?

Materials:
- 1 skein medium (4) yarn. (Pictured is Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn in "Soft Blue" and "Rosy Cheeks")
- I Hook (5.5mm)
- Large knitting needle or other “broomstick” tool (mine is 16mm, but I will provide dimensions for gauge)
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle

Notes:
- This pattern is fairly detailed but is for crocheters who are familiar with broomstick lace. If you are unfamiliar with the stitch, please view my FREE photo tutorial here:  Tutorial
- Gauge is 1” = 4 sc. Row height is not important. Follow the dimensions below for length of piece.
- Scarf dimensions (before sewing) are 30” long by 4.5” wide.
- If you want a scarf that will wrap around, add rows for desired length. (I recommend 48”-60” in total)
- Stitch/loop count is indicated in (parenthesis).

 Stitches & Terms Used
Ch – Chain
Sc – Single Crochet
“Tool” – This refers to whatever you are using to hold your loops. You can use large knitting needles, a dowel rod, or anything else that works for you.  Just remember to follow the dimensions listed above.
*…* - Repeat what is between the asterisks.

Pattern:
Ch 21.
1. Sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across. Turn. (20 sc)
2. Pull up loop from hook and place over tool. *Insert hook into next sc and pull up a loop, place loop over tool* repeat for each sc across.  Turn. (20 loops)
3. Insert hook into first 4 loops, removing them from the tool. Yarn over and ch 1. *sc into set of 4 loops* repeat across. Turn. (20 sc)

Repeat rows 2-3 until piece measures 30” (Or 48”-60” for scarf to wrap around). Slip stitch ends together OR cut yarn leaving a long tail and sew ends together. Weave in ends.
